This groundbreaking DVD recognizes the core needs of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and builds a path toward improved communication and social-emotional abilities.
The SCERTS acronym refers to the core components of the model: Social Communication (SC), Emotional Regulation (ER), and Transactional Supports (TS). This multidisciplinary, research-based model was developed by a multidisciplinary team including Barry Prizant, Amy Wetherby, Emily Rubin and Amy Laurent.
Autism Spectrum Disorders and the SCERTS Model provides a detailed overview of the SCERTS Model, its application for children with more severe forms of autism who require greater degrees of support, and its use for children who require less support. Using this multidisciplinary model, parents, educators, and therapists will develop strong teamwork skills and learn specific goals and strategies for creating learning opportunities within daily activities for children who have ASD.
The viewer will be able to:
... Better understand the characteristics of ASD
... Recognize the value of social communication and emotional regulation in the education of students with ASD
... Identify and explain the major components of the SCERTS䋢 model
... Understand the application of the SCERTS䋢 model in the classroom for two distinct populations (students requiring more support and those requiring less support)
... Participate in this multi-disciplinary approach to educating students with ASD
... Implement specific teaching strategies based upon the SCERTS䋢 model
